The sequel is here! cryptid Sea monsters: A Field Guide
In the Fall of 2025, a sequel to Cryptid Creatures: A Field Guide, published by Sasquatch/Little Bigfoot is coming--Cryptid Sea Monsters: A Field Guide. It will profile 50 different lake, river and sea monsters seen my eyewitnesses around the world. It is the first sea monster book for young readers ever offered, and I'm so excited it will be mine.
Expect the same features and layouts you saw in Cryptid Creatures, illustrated by Rick Spears (three drawings for each of the 50 water creatures). A few of those sea monsters are previewed in the slideshow below.

Reviews
Wow! I had no idea there were so many "sea monsters" in the world! It was fun reading about 50 of them. You don't have to be a kid to enjoy learning about such mysteries from the deep. Each chapter about a creature is short and informative - a perfect combination for younger readers. The illustrations are intriguing, and encourage readers to imagine what these creatures might look like. A good read!

As usual, Kelly Milner Halls delivers an engaging book for cryptid lovers of all ages. I use her books on my classroom to teach my students about critical thinking skills, such as, reading with skepticism and recognizing reliable witnesses.
Rick Spears' illustrations inspire imagination and my students love them. Excellent addition to the series.

I owe my interest / involvement with cryptozoology entirely to Kelly Milner Halls and Rick Spears' Tales Of The Cryptids ,and I'm not alone . . . much of Generation Z was first introduced into the world of cryptozoology through Tales Of The Cryptids.
Cryptid Sea Monsters is Kelly Milner Halls and Rick Spears' fourth cryptozoological volume and easily their second best work after Tales Of The Cryptids (Halls,Spears & Young 2006). Reports of sea ,lake & River monsters are easily my favorite subgenre of cryptozoology, so to have an entire book devoted the subject from Halls & Spears is a dream come true .
Halls is as engaging a writer as ever and Spears' cryptid illustrations never fail to impress. Cryptid Sea Monsters features several entries that are entirely new to me. My personal favorites include the Lake Chelan Dragon, Edizfigantus, South Side Sea Monster and Okoboji, as well as cryptozoological classics like Cadborosaurus & Champ.
I won't spoil the contents of the book ,but suffice to say Halls & Spears have (once again) put together an excellent survey of cryptids -- one suitable for all ages, young & old. There simply is nothing quite like Tales Of The Cryptids, Cryptid Creatures or Cryptid Sea Monsters in regards to young adult literature,
Halls' books stand the test of time for the very fact that they do NOT talk down to their audience, THE Hallmark of great young adult literature. I'm overjoyed to have had Halls & Spears come back to write Cryptid Creatures and Cryptid Sea Monsters. I have no doubt that (as with generation Z) these books will inspire a whole new generation of cryptozoology enthusiasts ,researchers and " cryptozoologists," just as Tales Of The Cryptids inspired me all those years ago when I picked up a copy from my local library.

Cadborosaurus
Rick Spears is hard at work on the illustrations for SEA MONSTERS: A FIELD GUIDE. This is a sample of the new drawings--a baby, an adult and a skeletal feature. How I love Cadborosaurus.
William Hegelund captured a baby Cadborosaurus in the late 1960s and this is an interview about that discovery.
