I was surprised by the variety of artists featured in this slim book. Kelly Milner Halls has written 15 brief biographies of some old masters like Michelangelo, some modern icons like Kahlo, and some lesser-known contemporary artists. There are sculptors as well as painters, photographers as well as collage-makers, Asian as well as Western artists. The variety of people and styles will encourage young readers to experiment with art forms and enjoy creating without getting hung up by the fear of mistakes or judgements. These clearly-written biographies include descriptions of a few outstanding works by each artist. Suggestions for further exploration and fun facts are included at the end of each biography.
