REVIEWS
This book is great for any existing dinosaur lover or to light a spark for new dino interests!
The tale of how the first (and only) dinosaur fossil was found in the unlikely place of Sucia Island in Washington State is given in an easy to understand and very entertaining way. There is so much to keep a young reader engaged! The pictures are vibrant and interesting, and there is even a find the fossil picture where kids can test their skills at spotting fossils. Definitions for the scientific and more advanced words are also provided, making this great for all ages.
I learned a lot reading this, and I can just imagine what the readers at my school will get out of this book! Put it on your wish list now!

Kelly Milner Hall has done it again! “A Dinosaur for Washington” is an incredible read for all dinosaur enthusiasts, young and old alike. Kelly engages the reader as she outlines the story of Suciasaurus. This informational text is sure to captivate young readers, stimulate critical thinking skills, and inspire scientific exploration.

I learned so much about dinosaurs and the search for their remains and hidden stories in Kelly Milner Halls’ book! The beautifully illustrated pages and pictures reveal to readers the painstaking research that’s involved in trying to find and identify dinosaur bones and fragments of bones. It was fascinating to learn how paleontologists work together to share theories and ideas about important finds. I also enjoyed all of the “extra” information provided at the end of the book - websites, additional books to read, glossary, and places to dig. Young readers (and old!) will get excited and want to join in the search for dinosaur fossils! My hope is that Jim and David (and others!) are able to locate more pieces of the dinosaur puzzle on Sucia Island!

breaking news: Tales of the cryptids
Lerner Books informed me on January 31, 2024 that the hardcover of Tales of the Cryptids would soon go out of print. And I was heartbroken.
This book has been in print 18 years now. It made it's debut in 2006, and thousands of young readers have loved it. So have I.
Then Lerner gave me some good news. I could buy the last 72 hardcover copies. I did. Hooray.
Finally, Lerner gave me great news. In January of 2025, they will publish a paperback edition of Tales of the Cryptids. Even more kids will be able to afford to buy this cheaper edition! How great is that?
More info when I have it, but YAY!

This is my virtual visit room! don't you love my wall of oddities.
Even before Covid-19, I was doing Virtual Visits for schools, libraries and festivals whenever a host couldn't afford travel and hotel expenses. After Covid-19, a lot of my traditional author visits were converted to Virtual Visits. I have a special studio, the right webcam and microphone equipment and more than 15 different presentation topics to choose from. And almost everyone can afford one -- or two or three or four.

Love that so many of my Seattle friends came to the Redmond book launch for Cryptid Creatures! Thank you so much!
Kids often ask me, "What would you do if you met Sasquatch?"
The video above is exactly what I'd do. I hope it happens someday!
ghostly evidence...literally!
When I wrote GHOSTLY EVIDENCE, I did a lot of research in haunted places including the haunted house in the video above. See if you hear the voice of a very young ghost in this recording. And let me know what you think!
WANT A STICKER? Illustrator Rick Spears created this fun sticker design for me. If you want one, email me at [email protected] and I'll mail you one. It's my way of saying THANK YOU for considering my books and my school visits. I think they are GREAT. I hope you like them, too!
my heavenly pets!
a fun challenge, if brief!
In January of 2023, I took on the job of editing this beautiful magazine. The job only lasted six months--four issues--but it was a joy. For a look as a few of my articles--and a few by local friends, click HERE.
I will never stop writing for kids as long as I have air to breath. My next book is A DINOSAUR FOR WASHINGTON: THE TRUE STORY OF SUCIASAURUS, coming in the fall of 2024.
After that, it will be a sequel to CRYPTID CREATURES: A FIELD GUIDE called SEA MONSTERS: A FIELD GUIDE. CRYPTID BABIES will be released with SEA MONSTERS in the fall of 2025.
Rick Spears is illustrating all three books, and I can't wait.
